The winter break has not yet ended, but the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences Hangzhou Advanced Institute (hereinafter referred to as "Hangzhou Advanced Institute") located in the West Hangzhou Science and Technology Corridor has already sprung into action. "We are set to become the first company incubated by Hangzhou Advanced Institute in the Corridor to reach designated scale, and the application process began before the New Year," said Ma Qiang, general manager of Hangzhou Gaopu Imaging Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Gaopu Imaging"). The company's entrance on the fifth floor of HIAS Science Park is adorned with Spring Festival couplets, radiating joy and ambition. With the support of Hangzhou Advanced Institute, the company settled in the West Hangzhou Science and Technology Corridor last May, now occupying over 1,200 square meters of space and achieving an annual output value of tens of millions of yuan. "We expect significant growth this year, and our current office space is already insufficient," Ma added.

From mineral exploration and water quality identification to item discrimination, using light to detect and distinguish various substances is Gaopu Imaging's core technology—and the secret to its remarkably high output value per mu. Inside the company's exhibition hall, an array of precision products based on hyperspectral imaging technology is on display. "Different substances absorb and reflect light differently, thus presenting unique spectral information," Ma explained. "Spectral information is like a material's fingerprint, and hyperspectral imaging technology uses an 'eye' that captures every subtle fingerprint to accurately identify the substance."

While the principle sounds straightforward, the journey from theory to technology, and then to market-ready products, is complex. Talent is the "first resource." The company's founder, Dr. Pan Mingzhong from the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering at Hangzhou Advanced Institute, is the scientific backbone. With nearly 20 years of expertise in hyperspectral imaging technology, he excels in key techniques and high-end spectral instrument design. "Every detail—lighting conditions, angles, field of view—affects the final outcome. An experiment might require just one success out of countless attempts, but a mature product demands 100% accuracy," Dr. Pan noted.

Bolstered by core scientific innovation, the platform support of Hangzhou Advanced Institute, and the policy empowerment of the West Hangzhou Science and Technology Corridor, Gaopu Imaging has rapidly transitioned spectral vision technology from laboratory research to industrial application. The company has successively launched solutions for hyperspectral water quality monitoring and automatic sorting with high-precision color detection, truly embodying new quality productive forces emerging from universities.

Innovation Momentum Surges, More New Quality Productive Forces Nurtured in Universities

A few kilometers from HIAS Science Park, construction is in full swing at Hangzhou Advanced Institute's Shuangpu Campus. "The library takes the central position, and the tallest building here is the Science and Innovation Center along with the International Exchange Center," a representative from the construction unit explained, pointing to the model.
